On Wednesday 07/03/2012 a Sinn Fein delegation made up of Raymond McCartney and Jennifer McCann visited Maghaberry Prison. A senior prison officer called at the cell of Cogus POW, Tony Taylor to inform him that the two were in the recreation room and were looking to talk with him. Tony declined to attend.
The reason Tony declined was based upon a conversation he had with the same two people the last time they called at the jail. Tony informed them both at that time that unless someone high profile like Martin McGuinness or Gerry Adams came out publicaly and called for an end to strip searching and that Sinn fein went futher than just "working in the background" then the Cogus pows didnt see any merit in any more meetings. To attend these meetings would in the prisoners view give credence to the narrative being told by Sinn Fein that they were "working hard" for the protesting pows.
Sinn fein can and could do more, they could say more but they choose not to, we encourage Sinn fein to do so and the prisoners door remains open to them if they wish to go beyond lip-service to their suffering!
