This is a belated e-mail-only just recently started writing on Indymedia....
On parts of the continent and in the UK, garden allotments are popular- if you live in a flat or don't have access to a garden it's a great way to grow your own veggies, get more self- sufficient and keep money out of the pockets of big supermarkets.

A few weeks back, Galway City Council started offering allotments after a (short!) campaign although they didn't shout about it (probably afraid they wouldn't be able to meet demand.
They aren't volunteering any info re where/how much/ when or anything but they were taking names for a waiting list.
As far as I know they're still taking names- it doesn't matter either way- flood them with requests if you don't have access to land. If they're not taking names anymore ask when they will become available, how much they will cost (in UK anything from £16-£50 a year) and where they will be (I've heard rumours that they are thinking of offering them in Terryland/ Dyke Rd. area)
Show them the demand is out there -apparently a lot of people have already phoned them about it.
