Wallace Shatter Affair only trivial compared with other stories of Garda Corruption

category international | crime and justice | news report author Tuesday June 04, 2013 11:30author by Sam Malone - LSG Report this post to the editors

Protest overshadows Wallace and Shatter Trivia.

On Thursday 30/5/13 a number to protestors attended the Dail in Kildare Street to repeat their claims of widespread criminal wrongdoing and corruption within the Garda Siochana (police). The recent Wallace Shatter story was overshadowed by the stories of those people protesting for justice in their cases. The majority of the protestors have been protesting for years and have indisputable evidence of criminal wrongdoing against them.

The recent case of TD Mick Wallace and TD Alan Shatter (Minister for Justice) only scratches the surface of corruption within the Gardaí Siochana (police). The stories heard from Protestors on Thursday 30/5/13 at the Dail indicate that the lessons learned from the McBrearty and Shortt Cases of Donegal have not been put into practise. The Protestors met with the following Members of the Dail and Senate: Tom Hayes FG, Dinny McGinley FG Minister, Seamus Healy Ind, Timmy Dooley FF, Caoimhghin O' Caolain SF, David Norris Ind, Padaig Mac Lochlainn SF (Justice Spokesperson), Barry Cowen FF, Emmet Stagg Lab and Pierse Doherty SF. All those Dail Members met listened to the shocking stories told and the fact that Garda Corruption is widespread and ignored. It was no surprise that the members were not shocked with the stories. It appears that garda wrongdoing is acceptable in Irish Society. In the experience of the Protestors The Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) has proven to be a complete joke and waste of time. In general it was agreed that the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission should immediately be abolished and replaced with a totally independent body so that stories may be heard and justice given. Very disturbing complaints made to the GSOC by the Protestors were deliberately ignored. These complaints involved criminal activity and wrongdoing by members of the force. But the Protestors are fully aware that any Garda criminal activity or wrongdoing is initiated by instruction from others in higher positions within the legal system.
