Making Sense of Trump?s Tariffs Fri May 02, 2025 13:00 | Ramesh Thakur
There's method in Trump's tariff madness, says Ramesh Thakur. Uniting his America First, anti-Net Zero and anti-DEI policies is an imperative to untangle the US from strategic dependence on an ascendant China.

He says that Royston Brady never turns up to meetings of the Governing Authority. As Lord Mayor he is on that body. He is the only Dublin councillor on it, and he does not turn up.
He only turned up once this year, and then left after a few minutes after a vote to get a FF councillor onto some College committee. I think he should be attacked for this in the upcoming election. Royston Brady shows 2 fingers to the people of Dublin, in particular the students in slum accomodation and badly paid jobs, when he does not turn up.
You ain't getting my vote in June Royston, you dont do your work!
Sounds like a more productive approach to me.
Royston Brady doesn't know what he's talking about, he just wants publicity and knows that May Day is a live topic in the media. The lack of thought here is obvious. How can you "ban" anarchists from the city. Even if the idea wasn't so fascist as to be beyond the pale even for McDowell, How wqould you enforce it? You could just tell them that you'd had a sudden conversion to the teachings of Mary Harney, and therefore the ban didn't apply to you.
County and City Councillors speak buffoonery as their first language. Royston is just a more hyperactive specimen. Still, I can't blame him for keeping away from UCD! :)
Thanks royston for clearing that up for me. Where would I be without you. now where did i leave that Dublin business school application form
Ya see, Royston is actually from a working class background, so obviously he has nothing in common with the vast majority of the Irish left. Hence the crossed signals.
Brady is a shitehawk oppurtunist. He does very little real hard work but is always around if there is a bit of media attention going about. This 'story' of 'nasty Anarchists set to thrash Dublin' is getting a bit of media hype, Brady saw this and then had to jump on it by putting out some statement.
I can understand the sentiments of "non-idiotarian". UCD Governing Authority does not seem my cup of tea either.
But the fact is that Royston Brady's JOB is to represent the people on that body. Why did he go for the Mayor's position if he is going to do the BASIC DUTIES of office. At a time when many people in Dublin have a lot to say about the Higher Education system he does not turn up.
This guy is an opportunist as he only does photo opportunities, remember the homeless couple. The guy is not genuine. He's not doing his job chairing meetings of the City Council. Another BASIC DUTY that he is not doing. I hope he get hammered in the elections in june.
I've always thought it was a bit patronising to suggest that having a working class background meant that you had to vote left wing. If politics is a battle of ideas, we should let people make up their minds and quit throwing around jibes like "champagne socialist" or "class traitor". Fianna Fail have consistently won a large working class following, and Labour are mostly middle class. SF run candidates who aren't nearly as "street" as they pretend to be. Who cares? Royston has the right to join FF if he wants, and I have the right not to vote for him. That's how it's supposed to work.
i dropped a letter in to the mansion house last week asking for clarification of the mayor's same comments in the news of the world sun. before last.
no reply as yet.
the main problem is he said people protesting "against EU enlargement ".
unless he's seriously uninformed he should know that we welcome the accession countries.
we welcome all other nations too, including the non-EU citizens already here, who are mostly voiceless and media-maligned.
mayday events are about no borders, no-one is illegal, our lack of neutrality & forced privatisation as the mayor well knows.

Headline “BAN ANARCHISTS FORM DUBLIN” - ROYSTON
Anti-globalisation extremists with a record for rioting and other violent behaviour should be prevented from entering Dublin in the run up to the May 1st celebration to mark the enlargement of the EU, according to Dublin Lord Mayor Royston Brady.
“Gardai should step up their presence at Dublin Airport, Dublin Port and the Euro-port in Rosslare to ensure that those intent on causing trouble, damage or injury are prevented from entering the country” said the Lord Mayor Brady.
“In the past we have seen European police forces co-operating and sharing information to prevent football hooligans from crossing borders, a similar type of operation is needed to prevent violence in Dublin City Centre.”
The Lord Mayor went on to say extremists cannot be allowed to repeat the destruction to private and public property and the riots that they have brought to other European capitals.
“The recently published Garda Bill allows for the establishment of crime forums involving local councils and the gardai. I believe an initial meeting of the Dublin crime forum should take place ahead of May 1.”
“I believe that by working together a balance can be achieved which will ensure that our city is secure, while at the same time allowing celebrations to go ahead,” he said.
Lord Mayor Brady added that those who have genuinely held views against the expansion of the EU have every right to stage peaceful protests in Dublin, or any other city. However, all public representatives have a civic duty to ensure that lawlessness is not tolerated on our streets.
“In the coming weeks the city council will be staying in close contact with the gardai in order to ensure that May 1, 2004 goes down in the history books of our city as a day we can be proud of,” concluded the Lord Mayor.
I am an anarchist. I am a Dubliner. That little pup Brady has no right to tell me (or anyone else) to get out of Dublin. Is he going to get a court injunction to ban me?
I wonder, does he not spot the irony of trying to ban EU citizens on the very day chosen to celebrate the expansion of the EU? If he is too thick to understand that, then he is too thick to hold a position of responsibility such as "lord mayor".
Still, I suppose the issue is a useful diversion for fianna fail, to draw attention away from the negative publicity they have been receiving over their selective memories in front of tribunals.
Brady who?

sorry to be negative but the pic of the library really didn't tell you what the story was,and those grey pics were a pic dim and unclear too
