'Green ethics' are imploding, says Ben Pile. Economic realities are forcing the question: is it 'ethical' to bankrupt yourself? Is it 'ethical' to make energy too expensive for people to use?

CSI: Sunday World - Open Source Art Project

Write your own cartoon

Love ace crime-reporting mixed metaphors, cheesy clichées, bad writing, smug pontification and moral panics? Have a go at creating your own meme to celebrate it so.
CSI: Sunday World (Paul Williams as Caruso) - Free/Exploitable
CSI: Sunday World (Paul Williams as Caruso) - Free/Exploitable

For anyone not familiar with David Caruso's opening shtick in "CSI [Crime Scene Investigation]: Miami", the interwebs meme it spawned, or even with touch-tone telephones: here's a crash course on it, how it can apply to our dearly-beloved and equally corny crime writing in the Sunday World, and how you too can contribute to the world of art.

In CSI: Miami, David Caruso plays the part of police detective Horatio Caine. Each episode starts with a scene where, for example, if somebody has drowned in a vat of icecream, David Caruso walks up, removes/puts on sunglasses and says a corny one-liner like "looks like... a sticky situation...". Then the opening credits begin, with the lyrics from the Who's song, "Won't get fooled again", going: "Yeeaaahhhhh!"

So, this has spawned a popular interwebs running-gag, based on a one-off 4-panel satire by D. Seah of "Bigger than Cheeses" at biggercheese.com . Try a search for "david caruso meme" or have a look at "CSI Miami - Endless Caruso One Liners" at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sarYH0z948 for more background/inspiration.

Below is my own take on the Sunday World's and Paul Williams writing style, and contribution to Irish public debate. Please feel free to add your own; I used free online image processing software at "SporkForge" - http://sporkforge.com/imaging/index.php and Pixlr - http://www.pixlr.com/editor/

I predict a TV3 special where Paul Williams holds some youngfella by the arms while Brendan O'Connor and Ian O'Doherty take turns bodyslamming him.

Fucking hate Paul Williams.

I was sure Paul Williams worked for the Garda Pres Office. This ace (sic) reporter apparently didn’t know anything about the Donegal carry-on but glorifies criminals with his regularly churned out rubbish.

I recall an interview on radio when he boasted how ignorant his Dad was!
