For the first time in their history, the Irish Green party is in government. The deal that they struck with Fianna Fail has been criticised in many quarters as a “sell-out” – and with some justification, since the Greens have changed sides on the issue of Shannon airport’s use by the US military, the conflict between Shell and the residents of Rossport and the decision to route the M3 motorway through the lucratively re-zoned lands of Fianna Fail supporters, who happen to live near Tara. On these, and other issues, the Greens switched, overnight, from a position of opposition, to jobs in a government that is implementing them - with force when necessary. read full story / add a comment

No-one has put a street value yet on the 110 kids seized by lifeguards and customs guards today off the Dun Laoighaire coast. Nor has the Taoiseach made a facine statement to the Dail on the increase in irresponsible use of leisure craft in our waters. But analysts like me are quick to point out the links on safety issues as the suicide prevention exercise organised by the Royal St George Yachtclub under the smokescreen title "junior regatta" occured on the same day 11 teachers ran rather than walked down the stairs of the National musem of Natural History causing it to collapse. Ambulances were obviously stretched to the limit and headshots today went untreated. read full story / add a comment

![]() ![]() We do not know if the new improved EC Constitution which will be voted in 2008 includes a 'God Clause' but we do know that the good German Doctor Kues has plans for the women of the EU, which is to promote the equality agenda through rediscovering the traditional family. This should make the Poles and the Right wing Irish who collude so diffidently in the oppression of women remarkably happy. http://www.eu2007.de or -www.eu2007.de: read full story / add a comment

The Iraq war was won and lost a long time ago. Now it's time to get out and go home. Like Vietnam the United States is fighting an enemy that will not give up. Like Vietnam the US is fighting an enemy on their home turf. Like Vietnam more and more Americans are turning against the powers that be that got us into this war. Unlike Vietnam we won the war and now comes the cost. read full story / add a comment

This is very serious and something has to be done about this hideous proposed Planning Application on the grounds of the Kilmardinny and Super Valu on Lorcan Avenue in Santry. Many of these apartments that they want to build are 6 storeys high in an area which has always been a 2 storey area. Naturally the residents of the area, especially those most effected by this proposed development, those on Lorcan Avenue and Lorcan Grove are vehemently opposed to this on a number of grounds; including; but not limited to; increased traffic, noise and pollution, reduced water pressure, loss of light and lack of privacy, and are preparing to fight this very strongly. Now this particular version of this Planning Application has been declared invalid, but from all the information available, they are going to reapply again very soon with the exact same plans. Click on the link below and read the full information on this Planning Application below as well and see for yourself the huge size of this. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Peader de Bluit Tá seanfhocal ciallmhar sa Gaeilge a deir, "Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí". Tá nath ábharaín éagsúil ag an gluaiseacht seo áfach. Is minic na laethanta go gcloistear á rá, "Mol an Ógra agus tiocfaidh siad". Tá an meoin seo ag fás le tamaill agus an t-aos óg sa gluaiseacht ag iarraidh tógáil, agus béim a cur ar pholaitíocht óige. Sé sin le rá go mbeadh inchur níos mó ag an t-aos óg, todhchaí na gluaiseachta agus na tíre, i gcúrsaí ar leith. read full story / add a comment

In a recent interview published in the Washington Post, former US secretary of state Colin Powell said that the US "didn't have enough troops" in Iraq to restore order following the ill-fated US-led invasion. In saying this, Powell is not revealing anything, but in fact concealing plausible accounts of American soldiers actively inciting Iraqis to plunder public buildings at the time of the invasion. read full story / add a comment

While journalists writing on the front page of the Irish Times have reproduced the Department of Foreign Affairs' official line that the US military traffic at Shannon is taking place under a mandate from the United Nations, a close look at UN Security Council Resolution 1483 shows that there is more plausibly a mandate for Ireland to opt out of the US war of occupation in Iraq, because this has created conditions of persistent instability and insecurity there. read full story / add a comment

Tá stádas na Gaeilge i dtuaisceart na hÉireann níos fearr anois ná a bhí ariamh ó aimsir an chríochdheighilt. Tá pobal Gaeilge bríomhar in iarthar Bhéal Feirste a bhfuil ag dul ó neart go neart comh maith le na mílte taobh amuigh den cathair mór a labhrann Gaeilge. Bunaíodh an chéad Gaeltacht uirbeach in iarthar Bhéal Feirste, is rud iontach é sin do Ghaeil san tuaisceart agus ba cheart go mbeidh misneach orainn uilig a bhfuil ag súil le todhchaí maith d’ár dteanga. read full story / add a comment

The working class is the creative class: the working class produces what material wealth exists in a country. And while power is not in their hands, while the working class allows power to remain in the hands of the landlords who exploit them, in the hands of the speculators, in the hands of the monopolies, in the hands of foreign and national interest groups, while armaments are in the hands of those in the service of these interest groups and not in their own hands, the working class will be forced to lead a miserable existence no matter how many crumbs those interest groups should let fall from their banquet table. - Fidel Castro read full story / add a comment
