Making Sense of Trump?s Tariffs Fri May 02, 2025 13:00 | Ramesh Thakur
There's method in Trump's tariff madness, says Ramesh Thakur. Uniting his America First, anti-Net Zero and anti-DEI policies is an imperative to untangle the US from strategic dependence on an ascendant China.

her father assisted Saddam in his Baath coup, later it is thought Saddam rather typically had him murdered.
at her office desk. Expert on microbiology, DU and germs. ¿is she Dr Germ or innocent scientist?
As most readers will know we encounter germs every day in our normal lives.
Germs are everywhere, and some of them as you know are "good germs" and others are "very very bad germs".
Good germs help yoghurt manufacturers up productivity and cut back on labour costs thus helping the current US Federal defecit to avoid backloading interest rates into the post election period, but will this spell good news for job creation? Well perhaps after all the unemployment index is at about 5% in the USA and 8% in EU and germs do help us all.
Now if you worry about germs, and many do, what can you consider doing?
Well you could try washing your hands.
If you remember that is one of the golden rules- wash your handies. Also you could avoid known germy places. Now scientific research has suggested that the most germs are found not on the toilet seat, nor even your unwashed hands, but on the mouthpieces of telephones.
Now look carefully at alledged Doctor Germ's office, and you will see six multi-line telephones each with speakerphone capability and not a mobile in sight.
¿do you think alledged Dr. Germ could really have answered all those phones at the same time?
¿do you reckon Bertie has that many phones in his office?
¿will you remember to wash your hands and wipe your mouthpiece next time?
**************************************
unfortuanately I do not know the irish for germ but I can offer you these choice lines:-
Could you have a look at these pictures, please?
Ar mhiste leat féachaint ar na pictiúir seo, le do thoil?
-------
Could you look after the patient while I check out the pictures?
An bhféadfása aire a thabhairt don othar fad is atá na pictiúir á scrúdú agam?
------
The patient was in pain and couldn't cooperate further.
Bhí an t-othar i bpéin agus ní fhéadfadh sé/sí comhoibriú a thuilleadh.
& then relax and enjoy the "lighter note".
It sometimes occurs to me that the it's rather the older reader than the younger who prefers the "lighter note". Youngsters are often so sincere and solid in their opinions and their expressions that to allow a little bit of cynicism or humour into their comments detracts from the solidity of their argument.
Anyway, back to alledged Dr Germ, I left two of her photographs so that you could make the comparison yourselves between her image as presented by the US (Bush's war machine playing cards) and that offered by her former employers (the Baath party of Iraq led by Saddam). In the US version she is pictured in hijab, making sometype of salute, the contrast is so dark that your local passport office would reject this photo on identification grounds. I seriously doubt anyone really wanting to do their bit for the defence of the USA, homeland and securitry interests around the world, would have been able to pick out alledged Dr Germ in a line-up using this photo. It communicates "dark evil" and is remarkably "simple".
Now ponder the message given by the second picture, where alledged Dr Germ is pictured in an office, pen in hand, documentation on the table, six phones beside her and a computer screen behind her chair. She isn't wearing hijab, and appears to be the epitomy of succesful educated woman, in what we must remember was and most definitely still is, a third world state. Now yesterday I suggested it would probably be impossible for alledged Dr Germ to answer all those phones at the same time, so why have them in the office?
To communicate efficiency? To demonstrate a tippy toppy level of technology? To suggest open-ness and transparency in her work?
And what was thus her work?
Well in her defence, is the paper "Toxic Pollution, the Gulf War, and Sanctions" which was published in the journal "Iraq Under Siege" published by South End Press, edited by Anthony Arnove, and co-published by Alexander Dwinell.
it's details:-(Updated Edition) 264 pages 2002 ISBN 0-89608-697-6 $16
http://www.southendpress.org/books/iraq.shtml
This paper was well received by her peers (which is good enough for me, as an anti-authoritarian and anarcho-syndicalist and noted eccentric, peer review and response are key co-operative terms) and indeed became one of the main works consulted on the nasty question of depleted uranium.
So it does seem, that in the abscence of evidence on a WMD program in Iraq, that the USA is attempting to silence one of it's most qualified scientific critics in a land where DU has been used on many occasions.
& we don't like that.
But perhaps there are "neo-cons", Bush fans, rabid americans and such who will explain her guilt to us in their usual friendly terms.
So here is what we have to say about it in the meantime, so if any U$ head want's to play the game, "do the research", source the sources, dot the eyes and slash the teas please:-
